A Bengaluru dawn corridor puts hospital samples on a drone, not a van

Nilgiri Lift has filed for twenty mornings of medical flights between two hospital roofs. The route stays over the lake beds, and it stops if the noise monitors complain.

A small multirotor over farmland at first light. Nilgiri Lift’s corridor is shorter, and it ends at a hospital roof.

Nilgiri Lift, a Bengaluru operator that has spent two years moving survey cameras over construction sites, has asked the civil aviation regulator for a ninety-day medical corridor: hospital roof to hospital roof, wheels-off only between 05:50 and 07:10, never over the dense grid to the west of the tanks. The payload is blood and tissue samples that currently sit in a van on the outer ring road.

The filing is built like the Bay Pico air-taxi case, only lower and shorter. Eight movements a morning. A published noise sheet. An automatic pause if the median pass exceeds the number in the document. Pilots are licensed remote pilots already on the company’s books, not a new category invented for the trial.

The van still wins if the drone is a press release. It loses if the sample is warm when it arrives.

“The van still wins if the drone is a press release,” said Meera Iyer, who runs Nilgiri’s operations. “It loses if the sample is warm when it arrives. We are asking for the mornings in which we can count that, not for a map of the city.”

Hospitals in the trial have agreed to a roof stand and a nurse who signs the box. They have not agreed to a camera crew. The regulator’s drone office, which spent the summer clearing a backlog of agricultural registrations, has told the company the medical file will be read as a corridor, not as a new industry. A decision is expected before the northeast monsoon makes the dawn slot theoretical.
